You know, if there’s one thing I think we can agree on as Americans, no matter how uneducated or ignorant we might be, it’s that Safeway fucking sucks, right? Like, objectively speaking, it’s a shit-hole grocery store that treats it’s customers like criminals and its employees worse?
Anywho…we’re not here to talk about late stage capitalism, we’re here to talk about actual Hell.
I thought i’d continue with Enzo’s little side-quest, his what you might call pilgrimage to Reason. Without further bitching and moaning….
Enzo continues his ruminatory ambulation toward Reason
(continuing from part one: “The Garden of Reason”)
Reason is a waterlogged place.
The garden has no real beginning, no end anyone’s been able to discover. The fruit that grows there is bitter and addictive.
Enzo heard it calling to him one dark night over the tedium of agony that always filled the air, like crickets, faster and more desperate in the heat. Where are we going? His companions wished to know, but they were merely tongues and so had no ears to hear his answer, should he have bothered to give one. But no, he couldn’t answer. He just continued walking. Past the waterfalls of blood, past the abandoned implements of torture—their wood long ago rotted and swollen and dripping away, their iron rusted. In the shacks made of bones in the outer realms he could see the moment it all fell apart again. Frozen in time. He had to chuckle to himself. He’d seen it before. Hell was not meant to last. It was in its nature to destroy itself—a place built for destruction—for tearing down has but one story, one life it lives again and again. He’s lost count of the number of revolutions he’d borne witness to. Some lasted centuries, others hours, but they were, in the end, all just about the same—a new power rose to defeat the old or the old bursting forth in one last desperate gasp for control.
It was all very dull and cliché, and Enzo had more or less stopped paying attention. The constant churn, the reorganization of the tools of dehumanization. It was all more noise to him…
Join us next time as Enzo finally finds the gates to Reason and discovers what awaits inside!
